While on vacation in Miami in 2001, Tomm was “discovered” by photographer Eric Jacobson and did a shoot with him. Tomm returned to Luxembourg and his job at the bank after his vacation, but soon got a call from a modeling agency in New York that had seen the photographs from his shoot with Eric Jacobson.
Tomm went to New York for three months and then returned to Luxembourg. Since his New York trip was so successful, Tomm decided to quit his job at the bank and moved to Portugal, where he planned to manage a gym for a friend and train for the upcoming Winter bodybuilding competitions. Before he had his suitcase unpacked, he was contacted by an agency in Los Angeles. It wasn’t long after that that Tomm was on a plane to LA.
The meeting with the agency in LA went very well and soon Tomm was booked for a shoot with Muscle and Fitness magazine. The agency (or Weider) decided they wanted to use Tomm a lot and asked if he was planning on moving to LA. Three weeks later Tomm made the move to LA on January 13, 2002 at the age of 21, the move was made possible by his family, who gave him the airplane ticket for Christmas because he couldn't afford it himself.
Tomm arrived in America with very little money and didn't know anyone. Fortunately, until he got established, Tomm lived with some nice people who took him in. He worked very hard to make a life for himself in America, so he wouldn’t have to move back to Luxembourg.
Tomm’s hard work and dedication paid off and he rose to the top, becoming one of the most popular fitness models in 2002 and working constantly for various publications. One of Tomm’s goals was to work with Weider Publications on a regular basis because of their reputation for only hiring the best in the fitness and bodybuilding industry. Other people told Tomm that Weider would not be interested in him because he wasn't a professional bodybuilder, but Tomm never gave up.
In January 2003, Weider offered Tomm a contract and he proved the naysayers wrong by achieving another personal goal. Weider also sponsored Tomm to become a legal immigrant. Three days after having his Visa approved, Tomm appeared on the game show Hollywood Squares and won a brand new Jeep and $3000.
Tomm credits the fact that he has never given up on his dreams and goals, despite what others may have said, for his success. Tomm says, “I have always believed in myself and never given up. You only live once! If there is a will there is a way, you just have to walk it! What you give out you get back, so if you are positive and give out "good things", "good things" will come your way!”
And Tomm’s American journey is just beginning………
